I’ve noticed the abundance of Asian inspiration floating around lately, and I am loving it! Chinoiserie (a French term meaning “Chinese-esque” or “that which reflects Chinese artistic influence”) has been around forever but has more recently been given a trendy and modern update.Wallcoverings (often handpainted) are super hot right now and are a key element to accomplishing the chic chinoiserie look. All of the inspiration rooms I found for this post include amazing wallpapers with high impact!
Recognize the wallcovering below? It’s de Gournay’s wallpaper pattern “Portobello” on dyed silk, made famous on the cover of domino’s ‘Book of Decorating!’
The worn and tattered look of this vintage handpainted paper is magnificent!

The nice thing about chinoiserie-inspired furnshings is they come as modern and sleek or as ornate and traditional as you like! Get the look with these fab finds:

Hi Nancy, I am following your blog now thanks to Louise of Table Tonic!
Have a great weekend.
Amazing! Love this! Great catch with that wallpaper! And that light fixture in the Sarah Richardson image has my heart racing!
Gorgeous photos. To me Chinoiserie has always had traditional connotations to it, but wow, that dining room with the orange chairs! POW! Nothing dowdy about that room. And the hanging lamps are amazing. They would totally fit in in a modern restaurant or bar. Love it!
I agree with Dale - Great Images! Beautiful put together entry. Who doesnt't love De Gournay handpainted wallpapers?
Nancy I am dying!!! Love it all. That first picture is a look I would love in my entry hall. When looking around at murals I ran upon a great site that took me to look at Gracie and DeGournay papers. Way out of my budget range but oh how I wish!!! I thought about doing a post on them anyway. I am so glad you did one and all the elements you added are wonderful. Love that chair from ONe Kings Lane!! elegant and lovely,Kathysue
Oh my word. That Massucco Warner Miller dining room is TOO much...I love it. What a brilliant post, Nancy!
beautiful wallpapers. excellent decorations.
Chinoiserie has definitely been a big part of interior design lately, from Chinese lattice everywhere to brightly painted bamboo chairs. My favorite has to be the foo dog though, as it looks like my Persian cat!

Beautiful photos Nancy! Those orange dining room chairs certainly give the room lots of drama! I think a little chinoiserie goes a long way but I have to admit I love those wallpapers!
I love it all...great post!
Love your post Nancy! For me too chinoiserie has more traditional connotations but I love seeing traditional things made more hip! :) xoxo
Beautiful images, Nancy! Like others, I'm blown away by the Massucco Warner Miller dining room... but you know that for me it's the orange chairs!!
